Development and production of components also for the wind power industry
Dortmund/Xuzhou. With the ceremonial groundbreaking on Tuesday, thyssenkrupp rothe erde gave the starting signal for the expansion of its plant in Xuzhou, China. "With the fourth production line of our Chinese company thyssenkrupp rothe erde Ring Mill Co. Ltd. we are responding to the growing demand for rings and slewing bearings in China and around the world," explains thyssenkrupp rothe erde CEO Winfried Schulte. "The components produced in Xuzhou are mainly used in wind turbines and thus make an important contribution to the sustainable transformation of the energy infrastructure."
thyssenkrupp rothe erde has been present on the Chinese market for almost 20 years and produces seamless rolled rings at its plant in Xuzhou, the majority of which are processed into slewing bearings. Among other things, these are used in wind turbines, tunnel boring machines or excavators and cranes - in short, wherever rotary movements occur in an industrial environment and have to be ensured. "We started in Xuzhou with the production of 20,000 tons of rings per year. This has been increased to 150,000 tons today thanks to continuous investment," says Winfried Schulte. "With the current expansion to include a fourth production line, we will produce an additional 150,000 tons of rings on site from next year."
In the presence of high-ranking representatives from politics, administration and business as well as numerous customers and partners, the groundbreaking ceremony was held last Tuesday. The total area of the expansion covers 42,000 square meters, an area comparable to six soccer fields. Production is scheduled to start one year from now. In addition to the construction of the new hall, state-of-the-art equipment is also being installed, which on the one hand meets the requirements of energy-efficient production, while at the same time ensuring the greatest possible precision and quality.
"China has become the largest market for wind energy in recent years," explains Winfried Schulte. "Expanding our local production capacities not only enables us to offer our customers products of the highest quality, but also means that we are actively working with them on issues of sustainability and environmental protection." He sees the components produced in Xuzhou as a key building block in meeting current global challenges such as growing energy demand and climate change.
According to current plans, the fourth production line of thyssenkrupp rothe erde Ring Mill Co. Ltd. in Xuzhou will start operation in the fourth quarter of 2022. An additional 160 jobs will then be created on site.
